One year today my life changed for the better, and I haven’t looked back! It was a turning point, an opportunity, a gift. Today I celebrate my one year of freedom, of opportunity and growth, of gratitude, while remembering and acknowledging where I’ve come from. I acknowledge all of it, the happiness, sadness, helplessness, joy, strength, courage and perseverance. I’ve stayed in touch with, reconnected with and met new friends along the way. I’ve learned more than I could’ve hoped for, which I cannot wait to share with you. I’ve slowly learned to harness my strengths and listen to my heart. Some days are better than others, but I am still learning to stop fighting it and let it be. I can’t say I’ve completely surrendered to this idea, but I’m getting there. Life has a funny way of turning out just the way it’s supposed to.
Luckily throughout the tough times I had and have a partner who supported me, and continues to support me. That is something I do NOT take for granted and is one of the many things I’m grateful for. In early January 2018, I was moved to write something after hearing all the reports associated with the #metoo movement. I didn’t directly relate to the courageous people who shared their stories, but could relate somehow because abuse comes in many forms. I was also deeply effected by the recent reports of suicides, which is why I want to share what I wrote with you today. For me the following symbolizes hope, support and love for those who can relate in any way.
The abuse of power
The abuser: a narcissist, a sociopath carefully creating an image of authority while weaving threads of artificial emotion.
The victim: broken by different circumstances, filled with fear of not surviving life while enduring humiliation, disrespect, manipulation…abuse. Silenced by fear. Pain, frustration, disbelief of the acceptance of abuse. Loss of faith in humanity. Angry, exhausted, shattered…slowly begins to heal.
Finding – Courage – Strength – Self love – Self respect
Growing Love for family – Surrendering to their purpose
Slowly emerging from the darkness – Always with gratitude for life
