A smoothie is a quick and easy breakfast option to fill up on in the morning. Smoothies can also be enjoyed as a snack, but whenever you decide to enjoy one, I say you go for flavour and balance. To create that balance include a protein + fat + fiber combination. With just a few ingredients that you probably already have on hand, you choose the flavours, control your blood sugar, gain energy and feel good until your next meal. I’ve enjoyed this combination often, and switch up the ingredients to avoid getting bored of having the same old thing.
Breakfast Smoothie
Ingredients:
1/2 cup frozen wild blue berries (sub out with any other berry or some pineapple)
1-2 cups of fresh raw spinach (sub out with kale leaves)
1-2 tbsps of nut butter (many to choose from or go for seed butter – pumpkin/sunflower)
1 cup of unsweetened non-dairy milk (too many options to list!)
Optional: Add a tsp of cinnamon or raw cacao powder for a little extra flavour
Eating well doesn’t need to be complicated or feel like you’re missing out. If you can make something with things that you usually have on hand, and it takes very little time, and it tastes good.. then why not enjoy it. This smoothie recipe is what I started with which has led to a list of smoothie recipes. Start here and make it your own.
I’d love to hear what your favourite combinations are. Stay connected.
Eat well,
Nicki xo
